RIDE DESCRIPTION
One of the best Medellin motorcycle tours. Ride an adventure motorcycle into the remote backcountry outside of Medellin and catch trout with a local family. Known as the “Switzerland of Colombia” for its abundance of dairy farms and beautiful scenery, the trip takes us through beautiful towns as well as off-road sections where we ride through the hills and crossing streams before arriving at a remote family-owned trout farm located at almost 9000ft in elevation.
The route is beautiful and the riding is easy and its tons of fun catching fish with friends. The perfect day trip from Medellin.
ROUTE MAPS & NOTES
IS COLOMBIA SAFE?
The answer is a resounding YES. Colombia is exactly the opposite of what Netflix Narcos series portrays. People have to realize that Pablo Escobar was killed three decades ago. We've led hundreds of tours around the country and have never had any problems with security.
Anthony Bourdain summed it up perfectly:
"If you want to find bad people in Colombia, you can surely find them, as you could in New York or Los Angeles. But nowhere have my crew and I been treated better or with more kindness and generosity. I'd bring my family on vacation there in a heartbeat. And hope to soon. As I said before: Colombians are proud. Let them show you what they are proud of."
ITINERARY
Medellin to San Pedro de los Milagros
Leave Medellin in the morning and head off through San Felix, the paragliding capital of Medellin. We ride our motorcycles through the curving country roads and rolling hills above Medellin while taking in huge panoramic views of the city. We ride until we get to the town of San Pedro de Los Milagros where we stop and get a coffee and a snack in front of the church in the main square before heading off through the countryside.
San Pedro to Belmira
Leaving San Pedro we drive deep into the countryside outside of Medellin where we can see Colombian cowboys and towns people. We stop in the small village of Belmira to take a quick look around before heading into the off-road section of the trip.
Off-Road Motorcycle Riding
Belmira is the starting point for the off-road section of the trip. Riding through cobblestone streets the road soon becomes unpaved. Riding up into the hills and crossing streams, we stop to photograph the valley below before arriving at a remote family-owned trout farm located at almost 9000ft in altitude. Here we use bamboo rods to fish for trout that the family will cook up for lunch. While waiting for lunch we can explore a small waterfall located nearby, take a tour of the tout farm or just relax and talk to the family.
Belmira - Medellin
After lunch we hang out for a little bit more before heading back to Medellin.
